About me...
I was born in Suomi/Finland on New Year's Eve 1968 and we moved to Sweden in the early 70:s. I still speak finnish.
I have studied a few different languages since it's always been an interest of mine. I 've studied English, German, French and Russian, although admitted, my usage of them is nowdays quite poor.
My latest emplyoment was at SunGard Availability Services (formerly known as BackupCentralen and Guardian It Group) where I worked as a Disaster Recovery Technician, consultant, OS Expert and technical sales support.
I have also managed/implemented and helped develop a large disk-to-disk, Internet-based online, backup solution for SunGard called VytalVault/InfoStage (based on a product from SeaGate/Evault) which was very succesful, both technically and financially. In that role I both managed, installed and implemented it for external customer and acted as a project leader and sales support.
I have also held courses and workshops in backup/restore techniques and Disaster Recovery for external customers on Windows, NetWare and Solaris and I have held courses in specific applications for endusers.
During the 8 years I worked for SunGard I've done approx. 100 restore-tests/year which probably makes me one the absolutley most experienced in the Disaster Recovery area in Sweden. These restore-tests include both restoreing and verifying the customer's backups (controlled and planned tests) and "live-cases" where the customer's have had real disaster scenarios and needed restore-help after a major incident.
The primary platforms I've worked with for restore are Windows (all of them including Citrix) , Unix (mainly Solaris), NetWare (All of them up to 6.5) , Linux and connections to external platforms / systems such as AIX, S390, AS/400 (iSeries) and the backup software used has been probably everone known backup-application in Sweden (BackupExec, Legato, Tivoli, NetBackup, InfoStage, NT Backup, ArcServe/BrightStor and a few obscure ones too )
By system restore I mean restoring complete systems which can include Active Directory, SQL, NDS, Exchange, Lotus Notes, Citrix and applications and complete restore of environments to dissimilar hardware if necessary.
In this line of work, good knowledge of firewalls, infrastructure and TCP/IP is a prequisite. I also have a certain interest in so called "ethical hacking" , meaning security analysis of network systems, firewalls and servers although I have not been employed as such. I have been asked to join such companies.
I have been on call to be able to help internal and external customers in cases of real disaster scenarios or major incidents.
Since SunGard mainly is an "organization on hold för disasters" I've had the time to gather deep knowledge and expertise on the differences between operating systems (such as Windows, NetWare, Solaris, Linux ) and applications and been able to document it in order to help the customer's return to normal status as soon as possible without making the common mistakes.
At my disposal I've had most of the major platforms available at the SunGard labs, since it is mostly hardware "waiting for disasters" meaning that it is free to use for testing and labs if not used for customer purposes. These platforms include Open Systems (PC, x86) , AS/400 (OS/400, iSeries), RS 6000 (AIX), SUN (Solaris, SPARC) and so on.
Prior to SunGard I worked at TietoEnator (CIS, Celsius Information Systems, as it was called when I started, and later renamed to Enator) at the PC/LAN Group in Älvsjö until december - 98 for about three years.
In that role, as a consultant in the ousourcing-business, I managed, installed, designed and implemented solutions for external customers mainly on the Windows platform with Lotus Notes, Exchange, SQL, and also worked as pre-sales and NetWare technician and so on..
I believe I can help your company with implementation, projects , operations support and planning on most of the things mentioned above.
Apart from this of course I can help you with your contacts with your IT Suppliers or act as an temporary IT Operations Manager or just assist you in making the right decisions that will work for you and your company..
On a private note I like hanging out with my girifriend and spending time with her in our house in Tumba, south of Stockholm, along with our three cats. I very much enjoy listening to music and I also have studied and played the guitar. I see quite a lot of movies and enjoy reading, prefferrably historical books. I'm very social by nature and enjoy meeting people and interacting.
I think I'm usually considered to be "easy to deal with and just
a nice guy".
Professionaly I like to drive new ideas, projects and simply to do a good job which satisfies both me and the customer. I'm informal by nature but correct in my professional role.
Thank you for taking the time and reading all the way down here. :-)
